So Where's the Honeymoon?
Honeymoons are a big part of getting married nowadays, and although it was a long time ago, I remember one first questions I would be asked after learning I was engaged was, "Where are you going on your honeymoon?"
But it's funny, honeymoons don't figure much in romances. I can count on one hand the books I recall that have a honeymoon epilogue. If anything it's usually the wedding. Maybe readers find them anticlimactic (LOL!).
I was fortunate enough to have a dream destination honeymoon, a place that I doubt we will ever top in terms of luxury. We went to a private island in Fiji, and it was amazing. If I was doing it again, I think I'd still go for the beach destination. Although my preferred "normal" travel destinations are more sight-seeing type places, a honeymoon feels a little different. Private, relaxing, pampering, that kind of thing.
So I thought it would be fun to pick your ultimate honeymoon destination. If you were planning a wedding (cough, cough, Julie) or doing it all over again and money was no object, where would you go?
Me? I'm thinking Tahiti or the Pitcairn Islands. Can you tell I'm a MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY fan (Clark Gable or Marlon Brando version--doesn't matter)?

Oh yes Monica, I'm with you there. Some beautiful island such as Tahiti. Listening to the waves lapping against the shore, gently rolling in a hammock (with one of your Highlanders lol from the Highland Guard of course) and drinking a Pina Colata. Or the Almalfi Coast in Italy which looks so beautiful in pictures.:)

We never had a honeymoon. But I never really missed it. When we first met in person, though, we went up to Estes Park and had a romantic time there. Thinking back, it was sort of like a pre-marriage honeymoon. =o)
If we were going to whisk away now for a late honeymoon, I'd want a private island just for us. Somewhere warm, with lots of people to wait on us when we wanted them and left us alone otherwise.
Carol, I love the way you think :) I had a chance to visit the Amalfi coast last summer and it was absolutely amazing. So beautiful. Great choice!
LOL, B.E. I like the pre-marriage honeymoon :) I'm loving the idea of a private jet. You guys are good :) Yes, alone is the best part of the honeymoon, right? I think that's why I'd pick somewhere secluded as opposed to my "normal" places.
Ha, funny you should ask this! Chris and I are currently trying to figure out where we are going to go for our honeymoon this summer (we're getting married August 18th). We really thought about the beach destination, but that's not really either of us. Whenever we do go to the beach, we're always off exploring someplace or other, lol.
To be honest, we're stuck on going to England, Scotland, or Ireland (or a combination of all three). Once I'm done school (in a little bit more than 5 weeks now!!!!), we'll be focusing more on the wedding plans, including the honeymoon. When we decide, I'll let you know =)
As well, I should mention that Chris and I met for the first time in Jamaica, so we've done the whole exotic beach trip ;)
Yes, Tahiti would be on the top of my list. I also wouldn't mind honeymooning in Italy or France. Both would be quite romantic.
Instead of registering for china, linens, household things, etc, we registered our honeymoon and took a 2 week trip to Italy. Venice, Florence, Rome and Sorrento. LOVE! If I could do it over again, at the weight I am now, I don't know that I would go to a tropical island, HOWEVER, ask me again in a year. LOL! I might like myself in a bathing suit after I lose more than the 21 lbs I've lost thus far. If I go at the weight I am now, then we'd like to take one of those freighter cruises along the Norway Fjords and watch the Northern Lights for 7 days. You don't really get off the ship, you just relax while they stop at each port and deliver shipping containers, mail, etc. Or maybe to the Isle of Man. I've been infatuated with visiting the Isle of Man ever since I found out that the movie "Waking Ned Devine" was filmed there. I loved the scenery in that movie and wanted to visit wherever that was. LOL!
Natalie,
I forgot that you are planning a wedding, too. Sigh. So exciting. I can't wait to hear what you decide. Must be tough keeping your mind on schoolwork. :) You know how I feel about the UK. If this is your chance to go, don't hesitate. You can relax on a Scottish beach :) What a great place to meet! I went to Jamaica a long time ago with my family. I think I was in high school.
Jane, love to hear another Tahiti gal. It's turning into a party :) I agree about Italy and France, very romantic.
What a fabulous idea, Tiffani (I can count the times I've used my china and silver on one hand!). I fell in love with Italy, too. We went there for the first time this summer. I should have mentioned along with the money is no object that we'll assume we all look like Giselle in bathsuits. It's a fantasy, right? LOL. Congratulations on losing 21 pounds--that's fantastic! You mentioned by dream trip--I would love to cruise through the Norway fjords and take a little detour to the faroe islands. Funny that you mention the Isle of Man--I"m actually part manx and would love to go there someday.
Well, not that I've had alot of time to dwell on things with school..and I'm the practical one...he's the dreamer. He wants to go to Las Vegas.
He's been interviewing with New York Life the past two weeks and hope the job offer is in the future next week when they want him to return.
And....after some of his ideas for wedding gifts ...I've told him we are having separate wedding registries. lol
LOL on the separate registries, Julie--I should have thought of that! I'll cross my fingers for a job offer :) I was actually up for a Vegas wedding, it was my hubby who wanted the full enchilada so to speak.
He wanted to "walk down the aisle"....I wanted to elope.
Compromise: His minister Uncle marries us in PA ...Vegas honeymoon....reception later.
Sounds like you guys are on your way to a happy marriage. You've already learned the art of compromise :)
Tomorrow will be 6 months ago that my guy got down on one knee and proposed. I joked he had better do it now while he was still fairly young...or later I would have had to help him up. lol
(I'm 48..he's 47) :)
LOL! Love it. Happy early anniversary :)
Work & School-Work & School! Finally finished " The Viper", Monica. What a great story. As always I so enjoyed your "Author's Note"...and of course the excerpt of "The Saint". :)
My guy went back into the local New York Life Ins. Co. office where he lives....he said he has to get approved from the main offices and do a Federal fingerprinting....otherwise it looks like he will get the job! Yea! Wedding Bells in 2012. lol
Yay, Julie, so glad you finished and enjoyed! I know how busy you are so I really appreciate your reading it. My Author's Notes are getting longer and longer every time, LOL.
Whoo hoo--congrats on the job front. That's great news. I'll cross my fingers that all the i's get dotted and t's get crossed.
